On February 5th, 2024, Deputy Derek Lanphear responded to a concerning situation near the Bartlesville landfill. Upon arrival, he found an individual, later identified as Cierra Johnson, unresponsive in a ditch along the side of Highway 123. Thanks to the quick thinking of a passerby who called 911 and the prompt response of Deputy Lanphear, emergency medical services (EMS) were called and a single dose of Narcan was administered, ultimately helping to revive Cierra before the arrival of EMS.
The caller shared that she had encountered Cierra earlier, expressing a need for help and indicating that she had taken something. Once in the care of EMS, Cierra mentioned methamphetamine use before her condition deteriorated, and she was subsequently transported to Jane Phillips Hospital where she is now stable in the ICU.
We commend the swift action taken by all involved and are grateful for the collaboration between law enforcement, reporting individuals, and medical personnel in this critical situation. Our thoughts are with Cierra Johnson for a full and speedy recovery. #OsageCountySheriff #CommunityCare”

In our ongoing effort to protect and support our community, we want to provide you with vital information on a life-saving tool we use in emergencies: Narcan (Naloxone).
🔹 What is Narcan (Naloxone)?
Narcan is a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. It can quickly restore normal respiration to a person whose breathing has slowed or stopped due to overdosing with heroin or prescription opioid pain medications.
🔹 How does Narcan work?
Narcan blocks the effects of opioids on the brain and restores breathing within two to eight minutes. It is administered as a nasal spray or an injection and acts as a crucial first aid response until emergency medical assistance arrives.
🔹 Why do we use Narcan?
We believe every life is valuable, and Narcan provides us with the ability to save lives in critical situations. An opioid overdose can happen to anyone, whether it’s a prescribed medication that’s taken improperly or a substance misuse issue. Being equipped with Narcan is an important part of our commitment to the welfare and safety of our community.

Our deputies are trained to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and administer Narcan immediately. This rapid response can mean the difference between life and death.
🔹 Who can carry Narcan?
In Osage County, our deputies carry Narcan, and it’s also available to emergency medical service personnel. However, it’s important to know that anyone can obtain Narcan from pharmacies — it might save a life of someone you love.
